Abstract
The spectral slit width or inverse effective resolving power of a spectrometric system has been and still is a difficult concept which eludes a quantitative definition. Some of the difficulties encountered are experimental and some are definitely formal. It is suggested that the reduction of the formal difficulties through apodization of the dispersing optics could help pave the way for a more definite attack on the experimental difficulties.
