Abstract
The 10$\mu$m in-plane methyl rock normal mode of acetaldehyde has been measured using a $CO_{2}$ (or $N_{2}O$) laser side band system and the EROS spectrometer. Using both $CO_{2}$ and $N_{2}O$ laser lines we have approximately 80\% coverage of the spectrum from $912-9 cm^{-1}$. The beam is formed in a weak He expansion which results in population in both $v=0$ and $v=1$ of the torsion. This study is aimed at understanding the vibrational interactions in a spectroscopically well-characterized molecule containing an internal methyl rotor. The spectrum is found to be quite dense and extensively perturbed. The possible interactions with the bath states and the coupling strengths will be discussed.
