Abstract
The intensities, positions and widths of spectral lines can be obtained from absorption spectra provided the physical conditions of the sample (temperature, path length, etc.) are known. The accuracy with which these line parameters can be retrieved depends on many factors. An Information Theory approach is adopted to make these dependences explicit for the case of an isolated, pressure-broadened line.
