Abstract

The Lorentz half-widths of several $N_{2}$-broadened $CO_{2}$ lines at $15\,\mu m$ have been determined over the temperature range from $200-325^{\circ}$ K. Measurements were of the J = 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14 and 16 lines of a 316-ppmv $CO_{2}/N_{2}$ natural mixture at 10 Torr total pressure utilizing a tunable infrared diode laser of spectral resolution $\sim 10^{-4}$ $cm^{-1}$. The temperature dependence of the pressure broadening coefficients (i.e., half-width at 1 atmos) obeys a $T^{-n}$ relation where $n \sim 0.686$ for all lines and does not exhibit any obvious dependence on rotational quantum number.
