Abstract

The effectiveness of medieval clothing laws has been debated by scholars for many years. The legislation of apparel was enacted for various moral and monetary reasons against knights, wealthy women, and prostitutes in this period. This study seeks to outline these laws across various governing bodies while arguing that they were not entirely effective in any of the contexts in which they appeared.
