Abstract
The vibrational structure of the $^{1}B_{2}$ system has been interpreted in terms of a double minimum potential in the antisymmetric stretch vibration and strong anharmonic coupling between the symmetric and antisymmetric stretches. The results of recent rotational analyses and $S^{18}O_{2}$ vibrational isotope shifts have also been incorporated. The present analysis gives a barrier height considerably lower than that derived previously by Coon and his co-$workers,^{1}$ although their assignments have, in general, been confirmed.
