Abstract

The vibrational structure of the 1B2 system has been interpreted in terms of a double minimum potential in the antisymmetric stretch vibration and strong anharmonic coupling between the symmetric and antisymmetric stretches. The results of recent rotational analyses and S18O2 vibrational isotope shifts have also been incorporated. The present analysis gives a barrier height considerably lower than that derived previously by Coon and his co-workers,1 although their assignments have, in general, been confirmed.
