Abstract
Pure Stark transitions of the type $\bigtriangleup {J} = 0, \bigtriangleup {M} = \pm { 1} $ have been observed for several low J states of ozone using molecular beam electric resonance spectroscopy. Frequency shifts of several MHz have been observed with precisions of better than 10 Hz. These data are interpreted in terms of the permanent dipole moment and the electric polarizability tensor of the molecule. Preliminary results give $\mu = 0,534 D$, and $\alpha_{a} - \alpha_{b}$ and $\alpha_{a} - \alpha_{c} $ both approximately equal to 2.7 {\AA}$^{3}$, reflecting the near symmetric top nature of ozone. More refined data and a general discussion of plooriz ability measurements in asymmetric top molecules will be presented.
