ABSOLUTE INFRARED INTENSITIES OF THE BOROHYDRIDE ION IN SOLID $SOLUTIONS^{*}$

Abstract
Absolute intensities of the fundamental vibrations of the $BH_{4}$-ion have been measured for dilute solid solutions in KCl, Nac1, KBr and CsC1 pellets, After correcting for the Lorentz field and the reaction field produced by the vibration itself, $(\mu)$ the following approximate values of the bond moment an its derivative $\frac{\partial \mu}{\partial r}$ are preferred \[ \mu=0.8d, \frac{\partial \mu}{\partial r}=1.5d/a \] A Study of the frequencies in the various solvents indicates that short range forces may be the most important factor in determining frequency shifts contrary to the conclusion of Ketelaar and van der $Elsken.^{2}$ The present results will be compared with similar work on other molecules.
