Abstract

The photographic infrared spectrum of HCN has been investigated using path lengths up to 700 meters. Seventeen bands have been measured and the values of the rotational and vibrational constants determined. It has been shown that there are large errors in the values determined by previous workers. A vacuum recording infrared grating spectrometer using a lead sulphide detector has been completed. The interference from a Fabry Perat interferometer have been used as wave length standards for this instrument. A number of bands of HCN and DCN have been measured with this spectrometer and the molecular constants determined.
