Abstract

The rotational line strength factors are well known for one- and two-photon spectroscopy, being respectively the H\""{o}nl-London and Placzek-Teller formulas. The corresponding factors for three-photon spectroscopy will be presented. These terms are important in hyper-Raman scattering and in three-photon multiphoton ionization spectra. Marked change in the rotational structure of the MPI spectra of ammonia with the polarization of the laser light will be shown. In this case linear-polarization emphasizes the P, Q, and R branches where the N, O, P, Q, R, S, and T branches appear with circularly polarized light.
