Abstract
Curran started working at the university in 1964, and retired in 1992. He served as Professor of Slavic and East European history, with an emphasis on Russia, and also, and later, as both Associate and Acting Dean of Humanities, 1975-1983, and as Dean of University College from 1986 to 1990. That year, after continually defending the College from critics, Curran left the office to return to his original, and primary, interest of international affairs. He became Director of a new office, Study Abroad. Curran also was closely involved, along with Leon Twarog, in the creation and development of Ohio State's Center for Slavic and European Studies. He served over time both as Associate and Acting Director of the Center
