Abstract
Joan Herbers, who was hired in 2002 to become Dean of the College of Biological Sciences, first describes her involvement as principal investigator for OSU’s Project CEOS (Comprehensive Equity at Ohio State), a project funded by the National Science Foundation to research retention of women faculty at the Ohio State University. She then discusses her family background, her academic career and her path in coming to Ohio State. Herbers also discusses gender issues she’s faced throughout her academic career and how she has handled them. In addition, she describes general issues at Ohio State of academic politics, ethnicity and gender, and faculty retirement.
