Abstract
The infrared spectrum of solid methyl azide has been obtained in the region from $1000 cm^{-1}$ to $400 cm^{-1}$ using LiF, NaCl and KBr prisms in Perkin-Elmer Models 21 and 112 Spectrometers Samples were in the form of thin films which were observed at liquid nitrogen temperature in a conventional low-temperature cell. In general in the spectrum of the solid support the interpretation of the spectrum of the gas by Mantica and $Zerbi^{1}$ and the of gaseous deutero-methyl azide by Miller and $Bassi.^{2}$ However several minor changes in assignments are suggested. Evidence of hydrogen bonding and of partial orientation in the solid is provided by the present study.
