Abstract

The Raman spectra of gaseous methylvinylsulfide have been recorded between 50 and $500 cm^{-1}$ at a resolution of $2 cm^{-1}$. The far infrared spectrum of this compound has been recorded over the same frequency range with the resolution $0.25 cm^{-1}$. Several torsional transitions have been observed and these data have been used to determine the torsional potential function based on a semi-rigid model. The barrier values obtained are comparable with those previously reported for methylvinylether.
