Abstract
A tunable organic dye laser operating in the wavelength range 4400 \AA--4900 \AA, with excitation line widths less than 3 {\AA} and pulse widths of 0.5 $\mu$sec, has been used to produce electronically excited $NO_{2}$. Radiative lifetimes of the excited molecules have been measured by monitoring the time-dependence of the resulting fluorescence at very low pressures ($<10^{-4}$ Torr). For observation wavelengths greater than 6100 \AA, the radiative lifetime increases from $\sim 72 \mu$sec at 4400 \AA to $\sim 80 \mu$sec at 4900 \AA, these values reflect the same general trend reported by $Schwartz.^{1}$ It appears that there is considerable fine structure in the lifetime spectrum.
