Abstract

By modulating the polarization of the light the magnetic Circular Dichroism (MCD) of transition metal ions compounds can be obtained through photoacoustic spectroscopy. Strongly absorbing samples which cannot be studied by conventional MCD are relevant of this technique. In order to extend the field of this method we have built a low temperature cell which allows us to perform photoacoustical experiments in the range 5 K - 300 K. Various magnetooptical and thermal effects have been obtained using this device and will be described.
