Abstract

The vacuum ultraviolet absorption spectra of several mixed fluoro-chloro methanes has been measured photoelectrically from 2000 to ca. 1200 {\AA}. The spectra are considered in terms of previous studies on the fluoromethanes1 and the chloromethanes2 which have utilized the independent systems model in interpreting the data. The parameters obtaiened therein are considered for the various molecules of this series. Monochloro molecules are compared to previous assignments of methyl chloride.3 Results of CNDO molecular orbital calculations are also considered. This work was supporeted by the Robert A. Welch Foundation.
