Abstract

Vibrational Circular Dichroism (VCD) spectra down in energy to $1250 cm^{-1}$ have been measured for the first time. This development makes the region accessible by VCD overlap that currently studied with Raman Circular Differential (CID) measurements. Comparison of the results of the two methods should stimulate theoretical development in vibrational optical activity. A couplet signal at $\sim1450 cm^{-1}$ has been observed in Raman CID for several compounds which have similar structure and has been assigned to a perturbed $CH_{3}$ deformation mode. However similar results were not obtained in the VCD spectra. Mid-ri VCD of 3-methyl cyclohexanone, dimethyl tartrate, $\alpha$-phenyl ethanol and related compounds will be shown and discussed.
