Abstract
Enthalpies $(\Delta H)$ from $-4$ to $-12$ k cal/mole and hydroxyl frequency shifts $(\Delta \nu)$ from $<100$ to $>1000 cm^{-1}$ have been observed for the hydrogen bonds between homologous series of alcohols and homologous series of ethers and amines in the vapor phase. In general $\Delta \nu$ increases as $-\Delta H$ increases, but in certain cases $\Delta \nu$ decreases as $-\Delta H$ increases. The significance of these relationships will be discussed.
