Abstract

Electric Raman scattering and Infrared absorption spectra are reported for the $4000 cm^{-1} A_{1g}$ and $T_{1g}$ states of $OsF_{6}$ in dilute mixed crystals at 77 and 1.8K. Spectra at the two temperatures are quite different due to ground state structure arising from the split $E_{g} (0 \mbox{cm}^{-1})$ and $T_{2g} (40 \mbox{cm}^{-1})$ states. These data will be discussed in terms of vibronic coupling interactions characterized for other hexafluorides and the crystal field potential.
