Abstract

The bending fundamental of methane has been examined with a tunable semiconductor diode laser (resolution $\sim$ 10$^{-4}$ $cm^{-1}$) in the region 1300 -- 1340 $cm^{-1}$ The relative intensities and separations of the component lines of the transitions R(2) to R(6) have been measured, and much of the Q branch structure has been resolved. Tetrahedral splitting parameters obtained from these data will be compared with the most recent published analyses of this $band,^{1,2}$ which are based on spectra taken at $0.05 cm^{-1}$ $resolution.^{3}$ The intensity distribution in the band will be discussed also.
