Abstract

A frequency doubled tunable dye laser has been used to pump $\nu^{\prime} = 0, 1,$ and 2 of the $A^{2}\Sigma^{+}$ state of the OD molecule, providing ratios of transition probabilities (Einstein coefficients) for bands having a common $\nu^{\prime}$. Six independent ratios were measured and compared, along with data from other experimental investigations, to ratios calculated with a Morse oscillator model. As anticipated from a similar $study^{1}$ on the OH species, a linear electronic transition moment of the form $R_{e}(r) = (1 - 0.75r)$, with r in {\AA}, yields agreement to within experimental uncertainties and is clearly preferable to a transition moment varying exponentially with r.
