Abstract

Small linear carbon-sulfur clusters have been generated by laser ablation of a pellet of mixed $^{12/13}C$ and $^{32}S$ and trapped on 12K cryostat window with Ar gas access. Isotopically-labelled Fourier transform infrared absorption spectra $(0.25cm^{-1}$ resolution) were obtained for many carbon-sulfur clusters. Using a B3LYP/6-$311G^{\ast}$ density functional approach, theoretical calculations were performed to support the experimental band assignments for the asymmetric stretching modes of the $C_{n}S$ and $SC_{n}S$ clusters. The band assignment analysis for the $C_{4}S$ and $C_{7}S$ clusters will be presented.
