MICROWAVE AND MATRIX-INFRARED STUDY OF THE GAS-PHASE OZONOLYSIS OF $^{12}CH_{2} ^{13}CH_{2}$

Ohio State UniversityAbstract:
Besides well known products of the gas phase ozonolysis of ethylene, formic anhydride, glycolaldehyde, ethylene oxide and acetaldehyde have been detected by combined linear reactor infrared matrix- and microwave spectroscopy. Microwave and IR matrix spectra of products of $^{12}CH_{2}^{13}CH_{2}$ ozonolysis were identified in order to elucidate the reaction mechanism. The distribution of $^{13}{C}$-isotopic species was qualitatively determined. The implications of the results for the reaction mechanism will be discussed.
