LASER PH0TODISSOCIATION SPECTRUM OF HEXATRIENE CATION
Publisher:
Ohio State UniversityAbstract:
The first photodissociation band of gas-phase 1,3,5-hexatriene cation was investigated at 10 {\AA} optical resolution from 5350 to 6700 {\AA} using Ion Cyclotron Resonance detection and a cw tunable dye laser source Extensive resolved vibrationa1 structure was observed, with progressions corresponding to a skeletal bending mode and at least one carbon stretching mode. The Franck-Condon factors may be compared with the neutral photo-electron spectrum, and the observed differences are reasonable in terms of the expected geometry changes upon ionization.
