Abstract

We have observed 5th overtone C-H stretch transitions of $CF_{3}H$ and $CCl_{3}H$ and 4th overtone $C-H$ stretch transitions of substituted acetylenes (e.g., $Br-C \equiv C-H$ and $NC-C \equiv C-H$) via intracavity dye laser quenching. An intracavity cell (107 cm path length) containing 200-700 Torr of sample was mounted inside the cavity of an electro-optically tuned (bandpass $\simeq$ 3 {\AA}; scanning region $\simeq$ 6000-6400 {\AA}) cw dye laser (Rhodamine B pumped by 2-5 W of Ar $^{+}$ 5145 {\AA} radiation). Absorption spectra were recorded with a one-meter grating monochromator: plus optical multichannel analyzer. High resolution spectra are being obtained. In addition, possibilities for laser-induced chemistry by intracavity dye laser excitation are being examined.
