On September 10-25, 1979, the ‘Seminar on Slavic Paleography and Diplomatics’ was held in Sofia, Bulgaria. This seminar was the first of three organized by the Centre international d’information sur les sources de l’histoire balkanique et méditerranéenne (CIBAL) in support of young scholars and for the exchange of information among specialists in the fields of paleography, diplomacy and archeology. The first seminar was held in Sofia (September 10-25, 1979), the second seminar – on Latin paleography – will be held in Rome (November 15 to December 15, 1979), and the third – on Byzantine Paleography – in Thessalonikē, Greece (1980). Scholars from Belgium, Bulgaria, Czechoslovakia, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Poland, Romania, the Soviet Union, the United Kingdom (England), the United States and Yugoslavia were in attendance. The article provides a short summary of each paper given at the conference on paleography. The seminar in Bulgaria was organized by the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences and CIBAL, with the cooperation of the Bulgarian Archeographical Commission and the “SS. Cyril and Methodius” National Library. There were 40 presentations, and practical workshops with manuscripts from the Bulgarian National Library “SS. Cyril and Methodius,” the “Ivan Vazov” National Library (Plovdiv), and Rila Monastery. Participants in the seminar on Slavic Paleography and Diplomatics included: Damian P.
