Literature on access to mental health treatment indicates that persons living in rural, medically underserved areas show a visible and disproportionate lack of services. A second problem in psychiatry is appointment nonadherence, which often leads to increased healthcare costs and poor patient outcomes. The purpose of this Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) project was to create a quality improvement implementation plan for a federally qualified healthcare center in a rural area of Ohio, that has identified appointment nonadherence to be problematic. The healthcare center plans to implement a walk-in Refill Clinic that is designed to decrease the occurrences of appointment nonadherence, encourage treatment compliance, increase provider productivity, and ensure quality care is being delivered. This DNP project is grounded in the use of following two quality improvement models in the development of the implementation plan: The Plan-Do-Study- Act (PDSA) cycle and the Quality Implementation and Evaluation Model (QIE). The outcome of this DNP project was the development of a plan that will be used to implement a walk-in Refill Clinic at a federally qualified healthcare center.en_US
