Abstract

This project is mainly about working in Dr. Janssen’s research lab over the summer. I have been a part of a research project with Dr. Janssen where we receive failing and sometimes non-failing human hearts, and we test the kinetics of the trabeculae muscles of the left and right ventricles. I have already been working at the lab for about 5 months, but since the hearts we get are usually received very late at night it is really difficult for undergraduates like myself to be too involved in the project because of classes. The best time for me to learn more about the research and get more involved with the research either in a graduate student’s project or come up with a project of my own is during the summer. In order to do that I must extend my apartment’s lease over the summer since I would be working at the lab during the summer and would need a place to live. My project would be starting around the 8th of June and would go on until school starts, which is around 18th August. The total cost of living including rent, utilities, transportation, groceries and other miscellaneous expenses would come out to be around 3400$. This project would allow to me to get more involved in the research which cannot really be done during the semester and would allow me to become a better student, a better leader, more independent and a better human being overall.
