MICROWAVE SPECTRUM OF 2-METHOXYETHANOL
Publisher:
Ohio State UniversityAbstract:
The microwave spectrum of $CH_{3}OCH_{2}CH_{2}OH$ has been analysed in the 8 - 26.5 GHz region. The rotational constants for the ground state are, in MHz: A = 12982.35, B = 2742.48 and C = 2468.10. The total diple moment determined from Stark effect measurements is 2.36 D. The constants and dipole moment components of the normal species, together with the hydroxyl hydrogen coordinates obtained from the spectra of the OD species, indicate that the conformation is gauche-gauche about the C-C and the C-OH bonds. This conformation is stabilized by an intra-molecular hydrogen bond as in several other 2-substituted ethanols. Spectra of three excited vibrational states have also been analysed.
