dc.description.abstractThe absorption intensity of the librational mode of crystalline HCN has been measured. The measurements were made on polycrystalline films prepared by deposition from the gas phase onto a cooled window. The measured intensity is interpreted in terms of a classical electrostatic model which suggests that the intrinsic dipole moment of HCN is smaller in the crystal than in the gas phase.en_US
