ENHANCEMENT OF INTENSITIES OF ELECTRONIC RAMAN TRANSITIONS IN SPECIAL CASES
Publisher:
Ohio State UniversityAbstract:
Crystalfields with no center of inversion mix configurations of different parity into an eigenfunction of a Rare Earth-ion in a crystal. Also different J-values become admixed. It is shown that configuration mixing can be detected by a resonance electronic Raman-effect whereas J-mixing gives rise to the occurence of the irreducible tensorcomponent $\alpha_{o}^\nu$ and also allows transitions which violate the $\Delta J\leq 2$ selection rule. Experimental examples are given.
