Family Items (John H. Glenn Archives Artifacts)
The Family Items Category consists of fifty artifacts mostly dating from the 1910s to the 1930s. Included in this category are a Flexible Flyer sled, a pair of strap-on ice skates, and a Lionel train set, all used by John Glenn during his childhood, along with items Glenn made in school shop classes. Of special note is the trumpet Glenn used as a child when playing echo Taps with his father during Memorial Day ceremonies. The category also includes military equipment issued to John H. Glenn, Sr. during his U.S. Army service in World War I. Annie Glenn's uncle, Walter B. Alley, used several other military artifacts in the collection during World War I.
