A short collection of original poetry. Generally, a poet’s first book involves the emergence of her voice, and my thesis will likewise track my creative voice and personal history. Most of the pieces are confessional and either directly involve my unique human experience or are explorations of situations and emotions with which I’ve dealt through the lens of someone else’s story. For example, one of my poems is about my relationship with my sister which I mirror using famous twins June and Jennifer Gibbons’ story. Major themes include betrayal, self-indulgence, and inter/intrapersonal communication. The poems are mostly free verse, with a focus on imagistic clarity, lyricism, and concision.
