dc.description.abstractThe far U.V. bands occuring in simple organic iodine compounds are investigated using substituent perturbations. Correlations of intensity and energy are made over related series of compounds. Detailed rotational analysis is in progress. The transition $\nu \sim 50,000$ $cm^{-1}$ is concluded to arise from the promotion of a delocalized $\pi$-electron (in planner iodine compounds) to a nonbonding localized iodine orbital primarily 6s in character.en_US
