VIBRATIONAL SPECTRA OF THE PHTHALONITRILES

Abstract

Solid state spectra for samples of 1,2-, 1,3-, and 1,4--dicyanobezenes have been recorded in the 5000--260 $cm^{-1}$ region using prism-grating and prism spectromenters. Comparisons will be made with the spectra of other disubstituted benzenes in the long wavelength region. A detailed analysis of the vibrational spectra is being undertaken and some tentative assignments are suggested.
