PURE ROTATIONAL RAMAN SPECTRUM OF DIMETHYL MERCURY
Publisher:
Ohio State UniversityAbstract:
The techniques of high resolution Raman spectroscopy were used in an investigation of the rotational spectra of $Hg(CH_{3})_{2}$ and $Hg(CD_{3})_{2}$. The spectra were photographical in the second order of 21-ft, grating (6.7 $cm-1/mm$). Lines of the S branches with J up to about 100 were observed: their s pacing is about $0.46 cm^{-1}$ for the lighter molecule and about 0.36 $cm^{-1}$ for the deuterated species. An analysis gave the values $B_{o} = 0.1162$ and 0.0912 $cm^{-1}$ and $I_{B}^{\circ} = (240.9\pm 0.4)\times 10^{-40}$ and $(306.9\pm 0.7) \times 10^{-40}$ gm $cm^{2}$ for $Hg(CH_{3})_{2}$ and $Hg(CD_{3})_{2}$ respectively. The interruclear distance r(C-Hg) was determined to be $2.094\pm 0.005 {\AA}.$
