dc.description.abstract | “Observed $values^{1}$ of the bending constants in $BeF_{2}$, $BeCl_{2}$ and $MgCl_{2}$ are much higher than the corresponding constant for $HgCl_{2}$. An electrostatic model similar to that of $Debye^{2}$ for $H_{2} O$ shows that this is entirely in keeping with the relatively large polarizability of Mercury. Calculated values of the bending constant in the Beryllium and Magnesium salts are in rather good agreement with the experimental values, in view of the crudity of the model.” | en_US |
