RAMAN SPECTRA OF S-TRIAZINE AND BUTATRIENE
Publisher:
Ohio State UniversityAbstract:
The pure rotational spectra of gaseous s-triazine ($C_{3}N_{3}H_{3}$ and $C_{3}N_{3}D_{3}$) and butatriene ($H_{2}C_{4}H_{2}$) have been photographed in the second order of a 21 ft. grating spectrograph. The C-N bond length in s-triazine was found to be 1.338 \AA, a value which is 0.02 \AA larger than that found in the solid phase by X-ray diffraction. The central $C = C$ bond length in butatriene was found to be 1.284 \AA. This double bond is considerably shorter than in ethylene (1.344 A) and allene (1.309 \AA). An apparatus for exciting Raman spectra with $\lambda$2537 from $Hg^{198}$ lamps will be described and some preliminary results will be discussed briefly.
