INFRARED SPECTRA OF LITHIUM HALIDES
Publisher:
Ohio State UniversityAbstract:
The infrared spectra of the molecules Lil, LiBr, LiC1 have been measured in the region of the fundamental vibration frequency. The vibrational frequencies are calculated from the observed spectra to be {LiI}\qquad \omega_{e}=501\mbox{cm}^{-1} {LiBr}\qquad {\bar{\omega}}_{e}=579\mbox{cm}^{-1} {LiCl}\qquad \omega_{e}=662\mbox{cm}^{-1} The observed spectra are composed of many overlapping bands. The calculated spectra are in good agreement with those observed. There is no evidence in the spectra for the existence of appreciable quantities of dimeric molecules. The apparatus used appears suitable for absorption measurements above $2000 ^{\circ} C$.
