The vibration-rotation band of nitrous oxide associated with the absorption of the fundamental bending vibration $\nu_{2}$ at 17$\mu$ has been remeasured with a 2000-lines-per-inch grating, and the following values are obtained for the molecular constants: $\nu_{0} = 588.78 cm^{-1}$, $B_{000} = 0.41903 cm^{-1}$, $\alpha_{2}^{PR} = 0.000164 cm^{-1}$, $D^{\prime} = D^{\prime\prime} = 0.19 \times 10^{-6} cm^{-1}$. It is found as in $CO_{2}$ that there is no change in the centrifugal stretching constants for the two states involved in the $transition.^{1}$ This result therefore does not confirm the 8% change in the D values for the two states reported by Christensen and $Thompson.^{2}$ It is felt that the data of these authors are probably affected by the overlapping ``hot” bands due to inadequate resolution.en_US
