THE VIBRATIONAL SPECTRA OF $CF_{2}=CD_{2}$ AND $CF_{2}=CHD$
Publisher:
Ohio State UniversityAbstract:
Samples of $CF_{2}-CD_{2}$ and $CF_{2}=CHD$ of high isotopic purity were prepared. The infrared spectra of the gas phase were obtained in the region from 2 to 40 microns. The Raman spectra were determined on the liquid material at $-110^{\circ} C$. Qualitative polarization data were obtained. The fundamental modes of vibration have been assigned on the basis of band envelopes and depolarization factors; the spectra have been interpreted in detail. The assignment of the $CH_{2}$-deformation frequency in $CF_{2}-CH_{2}$ has been considered in the light of the new data. Product rule calculations have been carried out, but added little new information. The assignments have been summarized and discussed in terms of the ""group frequency"" theory being developed in this laboratory.
