The obliteration of previously distinct horizontal markets for agricultural commodities has focused increasing attention on vertical coordination in commodity subsectors. No accepted conceptual frame-work for analyzing vertical market processes exists. A subset of structure-conduct variables relevant to vertical market organization and behavior is suggested. Testable hypotheses are generated.
