The paper presents an analysis of association in a contingency table using log-linear models. The focus is made on situation when at least one of variables is measured on an ordinal scale. I formulate hypotheses in terms of log-linear models, various parametrizations of these models and methods of testing them. In presentation of this approach I refer to data coming from the Polish edition of European Social Survey carried out in 2002. These examples show, that making use of information about ordering of categories of one, or more variables, gives an opportunity to formulate model, which fits data well.
