Late 19th century
Pauline Markham. Portrait of a woman sitting. Handwritten note accompanying the carte-de-visite states, "Miss Pauline Markham (Actress in Burlesque and Extravaganza), Feb. 24/77. She made her debut at the Queen's theatre on Nov. 7/67, when she played the part of Rose Duford in 'The First Night' with Mr. Alfred Wigan. Her success was so great that she was retained to play in some burlesque extravaganza in conjunction with Mr. L. Toole. A successful American Tour in which she engaged led to a fresh engagement being entered into with her for the United States and she remained acting on the American continent for some time. Her latest appearance has been at the Covent Garden for the pantomime, where she succeeded, as leading actress, Miss Nelly Power."
1 photographic print.
