Abstract:
Colophon: Mid-Ohio Elegies was made possible by grants from the Xerox Foundation and The Ohio State University. Additional funding was provided by the Pfeifer Printing Co. and Joe Chininci, Jr. Special acknowledgements are made to Kent Kirby, Light Print Press, Art Zook of Lens & Labs and Bill Gast, Pfeifer Printing Company for their technical assistance and encouragement. The collotypes in this book were printed by Kurt Retter from sensitized gelatin plates on a Vandercook Proof Press and represent perhaps the finest screenless ink-to-paper printing process for the reproduction of photogrpahic images where fidelity to original detail and the finest papers are required. The collotype is unique in that it offers the photographer, through inking techniques at the press, the same control over tonal range and detail of the image as would be enjoyed through light exposure and wet chemistry in a photographic darkroom. One hundred sixty-five copies of this book have been printed by Kurt Retter on Mohawk Letterpress paper from Centaur types set by Mackenzie-Harris Corp. and bound with Fabriano Roma paper over boards at The Logan Elm Press and Paper Mill, the Arts-of-the-Book Laboratory of The Ohio State University College of the Arts, Department of Art Education.
