Abstract:
A slightly revised version of a presentation made at the Cowan Symposium in 2003, Paul Bogatay's accomplishments in ceramic art are reviewed. Beginning with his work at the Cowan Pottery Studio in Rocky River, Ohio, and continuing during his tenure at Ohio State University, Bogatay's interests ranged from dinnerware design to ceramic sculpture and won numerous prizes. His collaboration with Walter D. Ford at Ford Ceramic Art was significant. His teaching legacy was continued by ceramic artists such as Hal Fromhold and Howard Kottler.
