dc.description.abstractThe relative quenching of vibrational states in ${N_{2}}^{+}(B^{2}\Sigma)$ has been studied in gas mixtures of He and $N_{2}$ excited by He resonance radiation (50.4 nm). The quenching rate coefficient for the v=1 state by $N_{2}$ is estimated to be $2\times 10^{-9} cm^{3}/s$, which is approximately twice the reported value for quenching of the v=0 state. Relative quenching of ${N_{2}}^{+}(B^{2}\Sigma)$ by He was found to be unmeasurably small.en_US
