In an extension of the work of Julienne and $Krauss^{1}$, who first showed that the $^{3}\Pi_{u}$ state is the dominant perturbative state, we have determined an empirical representation for the $^{5}\Pi_{u}$ state which yields a smooth deperturbation in the second vibrational energy differences of the three isotopic molecules $^{16}O_{2}, ^{16}O^{18}O$ and $^{18}O_{2}$. The $^{5}\Pi_{u}$ state is found to cross the $B^{3}\Sigma^{-}_{u}$ state at $1.880 {\AA}$ with a slope at the crossing point of $40000 cm^{-1} {\AA}^{-1}$ and the coupling strength between the $^{5}\Pi_{u}$ and $B^{3}\Sigma^{-}_{u}$ states is $65 cm^{-1}$. en_US dc.format.extent 112650 bytes dc.format.mimetype image/jpeg dc.language.iso English en_US dc.publisher Ohio State University en_US dc.title LEVEL SHIFTS IN THE $B^{3}\Sigma^{-}_{u}$ STATE OF MOLECULAR OXYGEN en_US dc.type article en_US
