Abstract

Analysis of new high resolution spectrograms of the $\beta^{2}\Sigma^{+}_{u} - \tilde{X}^{2}\Pi_{g}$ transition of $CO_{2}^{+}$ (2900 {\AA}) has led to a more complete understanding of the rotational structure of the band at low quantum numbers. Various rotational perturbations and other irregularities in the p-type doubting of the $\beta^{2}\Sigma^{+}_{u}$ state can be explained if an interaction with a high vibrationa1 level of the $a^{2}\Pi_{u}$ state is assumed. These results are significant in the interpretation of fluorescence branching ratios in $CO_{2}^{+}$.
